"Some Like it Hot" Movie

"Some Like it Hot" is one of my favorite movies of all time. Before I watched this movie I wished it was in Technicolor but as I watched it I was glad they had filmed it in black and white. It suited the movie perfectly. I also saw some color photos of the guys in drag and believe me, the movie needed to be in black and white, LOL. My husband has only seen parts of this movie with me but he liked what he saw. I think he would enjoy watching the entire movie (he is not a huge fan of old movies).
Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis play down and out musicians who are on the run from gangsters after witnessing the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929. They dress in drag and join an all girl band to hide out for awhile. Sexy Marilyn (Sugar) is a part of the all girl band. Needless to say, the acting is fabulous in this movie and I was rolling on the floor from laughter more than once. Everything is top notch: the acting, the wardrobe, the scenery, the script...

Goin' Shabby Chic...Rachel Ashwell Style

It seems like I always disappear from blogging during the Holiday Season. I'm sorry about that! Each year the Holidays seem to be busier and busier for me and I think I have a harder time pulling everything together the older I get! Yikes, am I getting old?
Last year, I decided to do a little re-decorating and decided to jump on the "all white decor revolution". You can read some of those posts here {featuring my old home}:

After we moved into military housing I started decorating in an all cream theme with black accents and just a few touches of color (no pics to share). The walls in my current home are off-white and the trimwork is cream. Everything is neutral and there isn't much character to this townhome (even though it was build in the 1950's). The all cream color scheme just wasn't working for me, it was way too bland. I found these Waverly curtains when I was unpacking. They were in a Guest Room a few years ago and I couldn't get rid of them because I've always loved that print. I decided to use them in my dining area and was happy for a little while...then I decided I was tired of the color scheme I was using of cream, reds, blues, and touches of black (I've been using those colors for years and years).

So guess what? I'm re-decorating again (keep in mind I moved to this home in May of 2011). This home seems so drab to me so I decided what I really need is a pop of color and I want to have more pure white than off-white (walls will stay the same color). I've always had a little Shabby Chic in my home over the years (my studio in my last home was shabby chic and I loved it. Shown here:

I started thinking about all the homes that I was the happiest living in and all of those houses had light colors! I had the mauve, dusty blues and greens, etc. back in the 1990's and lots of cottage colors in the late 1990's and early 2000's (light yellow, sage green, rose, blue). I even had a peach colored bedroom back in the 1980's. I realized that those light colors really uplifted me so I'm going Shabby Chic. Probably more French Shabby Chic, not toooo rustic...

I love weddings and I especially love to look at wedding photos. My family and I looked at old photo albums over the Thanksgiving holiday. I especially loved looking at the photos of my Mom and Dad's wedding from 1966. My Dad's cousin and his wife recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and we honored them over the holiday weekend, too. They had their wedding album with them so we got to see their photos, too!

I hope you had a fabulous holiday weekend. You didn't eat too much, did you? I actually didn't go overboard this year as I usually do. I usually eat so much that I am miserable and can't sleep very well later that night, LOL! We always have too much food so it's very easy to overeat. Back to reality...

My Christmas Decor Inspiration

I donated about 40% of my Christmas decorations (to charity) after Christmas last year. Sadly, I still own quite a bit but I love to change up the colors from year to year. I saved the best decorations and packed everything away by color so it will be easier to decorate this year. My husband loves traditional Christmas colors (red and green) but this year I am going for a colorful vintage theme. I decorated my formal living room in these colors last year and loved it!

Thanksgiving Table Settings

There are so many ideas available for table settings. How does one choose a style? I love to mix natural and vintage items together when decorating for Autumn. Burlap is always just right for Autumn, too. It goes with so many decorating styles: farmhouse, French, shabby chic, traditional and more.

Treasury Tuesday-Autumn...

It's supposed to be 78 degrees today in my area of Texas so I have to look elsewhere for a little Autumn/Fall weather and inspiration. I have noticed a few of the trees starting to change colors and we are expecting cooler weather on Thursday. I had a Pumpkin Scone and Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks last weekend. If that doesn't put me in an Autumn mood, I don't know what will! I always look forward to all the "pumpkin flavored" food that this time of the year brings. I bought all the ingredients for Pumpkin bread yesterday....mmmmmm! I can't wait to bake it! What puts you in the mood for Autumn?

Happy Halloween

Hello all you fabulous people! No, I'm not sick, seriously ill, separated or divorced, "out of business" and (obviously) not dead, LOL. I just needed some time off after a big move. My husband took a new job and we had to move to a new city. I have been settling in and working on a new line of merchandise (will share that soon). Easter Inspiration

Please excuse my absence. My husband is being transferred so it's been a little crazy around our home. I had a huge yard sale and it was quite successful. We have been going through numerous boxes from the attic (found some fun things), doing a little bit of packing and celebrated my 43rd birthday (where has the time gone?).

I need a break and am looking forward to Easter. We have an awesome menu planned and I can't wait to eat Easter dinner!

Treasury Tuesday

I like yellow, it's not my favorite color, though. I don't look good in yellow, either. But I did have a Mary Engelbreit themed laundry room in one of my homes years ago. The walls were painted yellow and the floor was black and white checked and I loved it. It was such a fun room, I almost didn't mind doing laundry there!
As soon as I saw this Treasury, I knew I was going to feature it. And even if you are not a big fan of yellow I'm sure you will enjoy it. I hope it brings a little Springtime cheer to your part of the world :)
